Is Nomi AI Safe? Nomi AI Privacy Checked Before You Subscribe

Nomi is a legitimate, well-built app from a real US company, and it is also one of the least suitable AI companions in the category for anyone under 18. Apple rates it 18+ and prints a Sexual Content or Nudity descriptor on the listing. Nomi's own privacy policy says outright that "No one under the age of 18 should use this Site or the System." Google Play rates the same app Teen. Those three facts are all published by the parties themselves, and they do not agree.

The privacy picture is better than the safety picture, but it has one clause worth reading slowly. Nomi promises plainly that it will never sell your personal information, which is a stronger commitment than several rivals make. What it does not promise is that deleting your account removes your conversations from its training archives. It promises something narrower. Everything below was read from Nomi's US App Store listing, its Google Play listing and its privacy policy on September 5, 2026, with the source named each time so you can check it yourself.

Is Nomi AI safe?

For adults, broadly yes on the technical side and with real caveats on the content side. Nomi is published by AI GLIMPSE INC, has been on the US App Store since July 2023, holds 4.6 stars from 2,762 US ratings, and its privacy policy commits in plain language to never selling or renting your personal information. There is no evidence of a breach and no regulatory action against it, which is more than can be said for Replika, whose operator Luka was fined 5,000,000 euros in Italy in May 2025.

The caveat is design, not competence. Nomi deliberately does not filter adult content, which is the point for a lot of its users and the whole problem for everyone else. Apple's listing carries six content descriptors: Cartoon or Fantasy Violence, Profanity or Crude Humor, Mature or Suggestive Themes, Alcohol, Tobacco, Drug Use or References, Sexual Content or Nudity, and Guns or Other Weapons. That is a wider set than Chai, Character.AI or Tolan carry. An unfiltered companion with strong memory is a powerful thing for an adult who wants one and a poor default for a teenager who found it on an app store shelf marked Teen.

Is Nomi AI safe for kids?

No, and its own developer says so. Nomi's privacy policy states that "No one under the age of 18 should use this Site or the System," and Apple rates the app 18+ with a Sexual Content or Nudity descriptor. Any parent applying the company's own standard has a clear answer. The complication is that Google Play rates the identical app Teen, which in Google's scheme signals suitability from 13.

That gap is the single most useful thing on this page, because it tells you something general: a store age rating is a self-declaration the developer submits through a questionnaire, not an independent assessment, and two stores can return two answers for the same binary. If you are checking an AI companion for a teenager, read the developer's privacy policy rather than the store badge. The policy is the document that binds the company, and in Nomi's case it is two full rating bands stricter than the Play listing.

What data does Nomi collect?

The categories are ordinary for a companion app, and the volume is not. Nomi holds your account details, everything you type to your Nomi, any images you share or generate, and usage data about how and when you use it. Memory is the product, so nothing you say is ephemeral by design. If you use voice, it holds audio too. None of that is unusual. What makes it worth thinking about is that an unfiltered companion collects the most sensitive material of any consumer AI category, because the whole invitation is to say things you would not say elsewhere.

The practical consequence is worth stating plainly. Assume that anything you tell any AI companion, including this one, is stored on a company's servers, is readable by that company, and would be discoverable in a legal process. That is true of Nomi and it is true of us. It is why the specific wording of a deletion promise matters more than the reassuring paragraph on a marketing page.

Does Nomi AI sell your data?

No, and the commitment is unusually clean. The privacy policy states: "We do not and will not sell or rent to any third party any of your personal information." There is no carve-out for a particular category of data and no scoping to a specific integration, which is a meaningfully stronger promise than some competitors make. Tolan, for example, writes its no-selling promise specifically about Google Workspace data rather than about your conversations.

One forward-looking clause is worth knowing about. The policy says that "Although not employed currently, we may use advertising networks and other third parties to manage the Site's advertising." Nomi runs no ads today, and Google Play confirms the app contains no ads. But the policy reserves the option, so an ad-supported Nomi would not require a policy change, only a decision. If ad networks in your chat history is a line for you, that is the clause to watch.

Does Nomi train its AI on your conversations?

The policy does not say it will not, and the sentence that touches the question is carefully built. On deletion, it says, "any information in our training archives would no longer be attributable to you." Read that closely. It confirms training archives exist, and it promises de-identification rather than removal. Deleting your account unlinks your conversations from your identity; it does not commit the company to taking them out of the archive.

That is not a scandal and it is not unusual engineering: once material is folded into a training corpus, pulling one person's contributions back out is genuinely hard. It is simply a different promise from the one most people think they are getting when they press delete, and Nomi is more honest than most in wording it precisely rather than vaguely. If your mental model was "delete removes it," adjust the model rather than the trust.

Is Nomi AI private?

Reasonably, with one gap. Nomi promises not to sell your data, does not currently run ads, and lets you delete your account from Account Settings, with deletion completing "within 28 or so days of confirmation." What the policy does not contain is any specific commitment about encryption. On security it offers the standard disclaimer that "no data transmission over the Internet or cell systems can be guaranteed as secure," which is true of everyone and commits to nothing.

Most reputable services encrypt data in transit and at rest as a matter of course, and there is no reason to assume Nomi does not. The point is narrower: it is not written down, so it is not something you can hold them to. When you are comparing companion apps on privacy, look for the specific claims rather than the reassuring tone, and note which ones appear in the binding document rather than in an FAQ. If reducing the wider trail a company can buy about you matters as much as the app itself, the broader version of that job is getting your personal records pulled from data broker databases, which is a separate task from anything a chat app can do for you.

Is Nomi AI legit?

Yes. It is a real product from AI GLIMPSE INC, listed on the US App Store since 5 July 2023 and on Google Play with over 100,000 downloads, with a published privacy policy last updated 27 April 2026. It is not a scam, a wrapper or a clone. Two details are worth knowing before you judge it by the App Store score alone.

First, the two stores disagree sharply on how much people like it. Apple shows 4.6 stars from 2,762 US ratings. Google Play shows 3.8 from 5,464 ratings, and the histogram is bimodal: 3,290 five-star ratings sit next to 1,096 one-star ratings, so roughly one in five people who rated it on Android gave it the lowest score available. Second, the iOS listing was last updated on 31 March 2026, more than five months before this was written, while its Android build has shipped more recently. Neither fact is damning on its own. Together they are a reason to try the free tier on your own device before committing to an annual plan.

Read as a table, Nomi's privacy commitment is the strongest single line in the column, and its age and content position is the furthest from anything a parent would choose. Both things are true at once, which is why "is it safe" has no one-word answer. Mozilla's Privacy Not Included team reviewed 11 romantic AI chatbots in February 2024, gave all 11 a warning label and found 10 of the 11 failed its minimum security standards. Nomi was not in that review and neither were we, so absence from it is not a clean bill of health for either of us.

Can you delete your Nomi and your data?

Yes, and the mechanism is clear. You delete your account from Account Settings, and the policy states that "Except as otherwise set forth in this Privacy Policy, none of your personal information is retained upon the deletion of your account," with the process completing "within 28 or so days of confirmation." That is a real deletion right with a stated timeframe, which is better than several competitors offer.

The exception is the training-archive clause covered above: archived material becomes unattributable rather than being removed. So the accurate summary is that you can remove your account and your identifiable data, and you cannot claw back what has already been folded into a model's training corpus. If you are subject to a state privacy law such as the CCPA in California, you have a statutory right to request what a company holds and to have it deleted, which is a stronger lever than an in-app button.

Is Nomi AI safe to pay for?

The billing itself is safe, in that it runs through Apple or Google rather than through Nomi's own card processing, so your card details never touch the company. The thing to watch is not fraud, it is opacity. Nomi publishes no pricing page at all: nomi.ai/pricing returns a 404, and there is no plan comparison anywhere on the site, so the App Store in-app purchase list is the only public source of any Nomi price.

What to check before you subscribe to any AI companion

Four questions, in this order, and Nomi is a good worked example of why the order matters. What is the age rating, and do the store and the privacy policy agree? Where does the no-selling promise appear, and is it scoped to a category of data or written flat? Does deletion remove your data or only de-identify it? And is there a published price with a stated billing period before you hand over a card?

Nomi fails the first through no fault of its policy, passes the second better than anyone in this table, half-passes the third and fails the fourth. That is a respectable scorecard for an adult who wants what Nomi is.
